For most celebs, I'd just ogle from afar. I have this issue about approaching celebrities to speak to them. Unless it's someone I really, really REALLY admire, I'd really have nothing to say
to most celebs. Nothing they hadn't heard a zillion times before, anyway. Like, "I really liked you in that movie" or "That gown you were to the Golden Globes was fabulous."
I probably would either ogle them from afar or just leave them alone because I realize they probably get tired of being noticed all the time. Michael Stipe lives in Athens and so I see him
occasionally and he's not really anything special. He smells terrible though. :stinky:
We also saw Erykah Badu at the airport last week when we picked up my BIL. She was on the same flight as him and she was SO tiny!
I would wait and see if they are receptive and if so then approach and ask for a picture. If they are in a good mood and seem like they wouldn't mind the attention I would bother them.
Not that this person is a celebrity or anything - but once I walked up to Brady Quinn when he was quarterback for Notre Dame and looked completely away from him to this obviously non football
playing friend he was chatting up with and said "Hey can I get my picture taken with you?" and handed my camera to Brady :roftl: So now I have a picture with Brady Quinn's friend taken by
Brady Quinn - LOL I then turned to Brady and asked for a picture with him too - after we all stopped laughing.
hopefully nothing. i lived in malibu for awhile and saw a fair amount of celebrities (nothing like brit or angelina, mostly c and b list) only once did i react. it was late at night and a
friend and i saw johnny carson in his car next to us. i was waving and he looked like a deer in the headlights. i felt really bad
Ash, I'd probably go nuts in Athens, because so many awesome musicians live there. I'm much more likely to talk to a musical artist whose work has touched me than a big movie star. I'd
totally want to hang out with all the Elephant Six collective, although hardly any of those bands are even together anymore.
Honestly, I just don't get excited over most of them. I would probably just be like,
"Oh, hey, that's so and so..." and go back to what I was doing. The Rolling Stones came into a Baskin Robbins where I was enjoying a delicious Very Berry Strawberry to ask directions to the
stadium, and I wasn't really affected. I mean, it was neat to see them, but I didn't go bananas. Later that night, I sat in my front yard and listened to their entire concert from miles away.
I'd actually be MUCH more likely to try to snag a photo if it was some tacky has-been D-list celeb like Richard Simmons or Charo. I'd never approach Brangelina in a zillion years, though.
I give them their space and let them be. I lived in Venice Beach (Los Angeles) for a long time and was quite used to having celebrity sightings and I figure they get bugged all the time.
Recently when I was in Philadelphia, I noticed that Martina Navratilova was shopping in the same boutique makeup store that I was in and she seemed so cool and while I respect her great
athleticism and how she is as a spokesperson championing equal rights for all, I thought she deserved to go about her business in peace. Later on, Bizzybee and I were walking down the street
and Martina's girlfriend noticed us and smiled and said hello. It was a cool sighting just because Martina was such a superstar in the tennis world.
When I was at one of the NHL playoff games between the AVS and Red Wings, I saw John Elway (NFL great) and Kelly Hrudey (former hockey player and CBC hockey analyst), but again, I figured
they get so much attention, why bother. Elway's seats are near mine and he is a big dude.
Probably one of the best sightings I had was in Santa Monica when we saw Dustin Hoffman. Yes, were we excited, but he just smiled and said hello. His energy was so great and he seemed
down-to-earth.
I have had many celebrity run-ins and most of the time I say nothing. I used to work in a downtown Philly Starbucks and celebs would come in ALL the time. The only ones I ever said anything
to were Gabriel Byrne, Brian Boitano and Tommy Shaw from Styx. In all 3 cases I just told them that I thought they were really talented and that I was a fan. Tommy Shaw was so sweet and
actually offered to put me on the guest list for their show that night. I didn't have a car at the time though and couldn't get out to BFE Pennyslvania. The others I just ogled from afar
(aka: across the counter). My co-workers, however, were more brazen. One guy chased the band Oasis down the street and they all came back in to sign autographs (Liam wasn't there). Billy
Baldwin came in once and was a total douche, not surprisingly. Richard Dryfuss and Bill Cosby came in but breezed through very quickly as to avoid too much attention.
I also do some freelance work in the music biz and have opportunites to meet rockstars every once in a while. I have ceased being awed by them though, as once you meet them you are reminded
that they are just normal people who happen to be really talented.
It'd really depend on who it was. If it was a celeb I really liked I'd probably say hi and ask for a photo (not an autograph though), as long as they seemed ok about me approaching
them.
I did meet Luella Bartley (the designer) last year when I was checking her into reception at Boots, and I didn't know how to react, she's sort of a celeb (I suppose), but more low key
. I recognised her straight away, but at the same time I had to go through
procedures and act professional, plus she had her son with her. So I didn't want to make a fuss.
I mentioned this story earlier this week, but I saw James Gandolfini about 5 years ago in NYC. Tribeca or meatpacking district. But he was getting out of his truck and I stood a little
distance away until he noticed me and then I waved this little pathetic wave and he waved back, LOL. I couldn't help it. It was the height of the Sopranos and I was like OMG, Tony's right
here before my eyes!!!!!!! Had to make contact.
I don't think they're widely famous. But for indie fans, the Elephant Six bands are HUGE. Especially Neutral Milk Hotel. But Elf Power, the Apples In Stereo, Olivia Tremor Control, Of
Montreal, Beulah... they're all really big in indie circles, even though most of them have broken up.
Of Montreal is still around, and super-prolific, actually. They've released a ton of albums.
I have only seen a few of the Houston Rockets and ignored them. I was most intrigued by Charles Barkley. I was at the airport picking up my friend. He stopped about 2 feet away from me and
then walked away. He was so freaking tall!! At the time, he was playing for the Rockets and I just loved him. I did not say a word and just stared at him. A lady leaned over and asked me if
that was him and all I said was yeah. When my friend got off the plane, the first thing she asked me was if I saw him. She said he stood in line in front of her getting on the plane and just
to piss him off she was tempted to call him Shaq
Totally depend on who it was. Some I would stop and watch, some I would want to meet, I'm sure.
Some, I wouldn't care less about and keep going about my business.

"I'm pretty sure she's baked on a professional level."
Most likely, I'd just not realize they were a celebrity. But the times I have realized I've never gone up to them. I was on a flight with Chris Kattan once and it was packed full of college
kids. Nobody approached him, but I was SO creeped out by all the people snapping cell phone pics, calling their friends, and following him around. He used the bathroom on the plane, and you
bet the second he got out some jerk frat boy nearly knocked him down to be next. WTF? I'd be nucking futs if people acted that way wherever I went. The stares alone would do me in.
It would depend. If it were some one I wanted to meet I might watch them for a little while then go up to them. I met Rod Stewart once. That man wears more make up than my boss (aka dragon
lady). Or at least he does when he has a concert. He was sweet- he kissed my hand. I met some douche bag model once at a party in DC- he was awful- kept telling me how hard his job was
OH- this is my favorite celeb story...
I went to school at Virginia Tech. I was there when Michael Vick was MR. Big Shot college quarterback. I was out at a bar one night and this dude was hitting on me and buying me beers. Cool,
whatever, he was kind of arrogant but I just figured he was some frat boy who I would never see again but free beer= good. Anywho- he goes to the bathroom and come back and says to me "So are
you going to go home with me or what??" and I said "Nooooooo, but thanks." and he said "Dont you KNOW who I AM?" and I said "Nooooooo." and he said "I'm Michael VICK." and I said "Nice to
meet you, thanks for the drinks." and shook his hand and walked away Seriously, what a
douche.
I have a story like that, Aimee. I used to work at a Pizza Hut, and Eric Lindros, who was one of the Flyers and a VERY popular team member, and considered very hot (although I thought he was
fug), used to order all the time. He'd always come in to pick it up instead of having it delivered.
Well, he'd always give the name "Lindros." Everyone knew he lived in our town and most of the employees would go batsh*t when they found out he was coming in. But every time he'd come in and
say "Hi, I'm here to pick up my pizza" I'd ask him for his name, and he'd get REALLY pissy.
Ogle from afar. If I could take a sneaky picture without them noticing, I might do that too. I was at a bar in Germany once and Chaka Khan walked in. I wasn't a fan or anything but I
recognized her right away. After a few drinks my friends and I went back to her table and got her autograph on beer mats. She was very nice but I felt bad for bothering her.
When I was in high school, I busted my shoulder while rowing and had to go to physical therapy at UF's sports medicine place. All of UF's football players were in there doing their physical
therapy crap, and the starting QB (whose name I can't even remember now) was hitting on me, and I was like, "Dude. I'm a sophomore. In high school."
I graduated in the summer of '99, so I think I just missed him. I think he was a red shirt freshman in '99. So, I luckily was able to get out of Blacksburg before his royal douchiness
arrived.
I'm really bad at spotting celebs to begin with so I would just ogle from afar. I was at the Farmers Market in LA and Matthew McConaughey was there. My friend had to point him out to me for
like 10 minutes because I couldnt spot him even though he was only two tables over. Everybody there saw him but everybody left him alone. All of the women were staring. This one chick made
her bf switch seats with her so she could stare
Oh Sharky's...that place was such a meat market! I am not surprised to hear that is where this went down. In fact, I was picturing the scenario at Sharky's anyway.
i see absolutely NO ONE famous in kentuckiana so I would probably be starstruck and totally nervous and just stare and ogle and make them feel totally uncomfortable.
First - I have been to the Hokie's Sharkies when I took my basketball team there a few years back for basketball camp. I remember the guys I coached with were naming football players that
were walking in - I was clueless.
Second - WHIP - I have a friend who would have gone crazy to make a pizza for Lindros back in the day. Is this when he lived in Vorhees?
Whenever I run across someone famous I try to give them their space and give them the same amount of attention as I would any other person. Occassionally I might try to steal a second glance
but not much more than that. My mother and my husband will both try to strike up conversations and then be critical if the person doesn't want to talk. I don't like to impose on anyone so I
tend to steer clear.
Yep, he lived in Voorhees, as did I. And that's where the Pizza Hut was. The Flyers used to practice at the Coliseum, which was this big ice rink in Voorhees, so lots of them lived right in
town.
i have not met any celeb THAT famous for me to actually do something... but if i bump into anyone in the league of brad pitt, i would just ogle and maybe if he seems nice try to take a PIC
together with him.
I'd watch & see if they were ok with being approached. I met Bill Clinton when he was running for his 1st term (I was like & got my picture in the local paper
I saw Andie McDowell in the lobby of a chi chi hotel here in town. Whats really random about that is when I went to school in Missoula I dated the son of her dentist when she lived out there.
How random!
Oh & I saw Carson Cressly (from Queer Eye) in a pirate museum in Providencetown, MA! I really wanted to say hi to him but he was leaving as I was coming in & I'd already paid for my
ticket. My mom sat on a bench outside waiting for me & when I came out she was all "Carson's here!!"
Gotta seize the moment! When we vacationed in London last summer we had dinner in Soho, at a place called Yming, and saw Tim Curry. Hope someone knows of him. Tim Curry starred in Rocky
Horror Picture Show but for the younger Sugars, he was in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York and played Marion Finster on a couple of Will & Grace episodes. He's also the voice for Nigel
Thornberry on the animated Wild Thornberries. Anyway once we really convinced ourselves it was him, my hubby & daughter were suddenly shy. I thought "I may never see Tim Curry in London
again!" So I asked for his autograph and the restaurant owner took our picture. Tim was very nice, quiet & gracious. I didn't gush & make a fool of myself. Couldn't really think of
much more to say except Love your movies! I'd post the pic but I think I look horrible

10You should totally come and visit here sometime. I LOVE Elf Power! My friend Jeremy is in like 12 bands here and probably knows all of those people.
11I give them their space and let them be. I lived in Venice Beach (Los Angeles) for a long time and was quite used to having celebrity sightings and I figure they get bugged all the time.

14Yid, I didn't know you'd lived in Philly. Which Starbucks?
15I worked at the Starbucks at 18th and Market for 3 years (1999-2001). I lived off of South Street (6th & South.
16Ah, near the Antiquarian's and Beau Monde. Nice! I lived not too far from there for a while, at 10th and Fitzwater.
