This morning on my local radio station the deejay interviewed David Cook via phone regarding his recent American Idol win and the Idol tour and his new single. I thought it was a great interview and David even graciously sidestepped the deejay's questions about rumors of David Archuletta being gay. When the interview was over the deejay proceeded to go into a rant about how David's "handler" had given a list of questions that could not be asked, specifically questions about David's ailing brother and his recent date with Kimberly Caldwell. David preferred to not discuss his personal life during the interview. The deejay was so mad about this that he almost cancelled the interview because he felt that he owed it to his listeners to be able to ask David anything and everything.
So, what do you think? Should celebrities be allowed to have certain questions be "off limit" during interviews?
Fornarina
not for people like Paris Hilton and peeps like that but other people yes!
1if it was told to the deejay before the interview that certain questions were off limits then no he has no right to ask those questions. he needs to quite whining. i don't understand why cook wouldn't answer the kim caldwell question though. seems to me he opened up about his date and possibly dating her already somewhere else. i guess now he is seeing that is a mistake.
but the ill brother questions should definitely be respected.
2Agreed, for people like Paris who have used every aspect of their life to give momentum to their celebrity there is no topic off limits.
I think in the case of David it gets tricky for him. He never wanted to talk about his brother on Idol, since he didn't want sympathy votes. I think I read that the Idol producers urged him to talk about it as the show progressed. I think he absolutely has the right to not answer any questions about his family. As for Kimberly, he made the mistake of asking her out on national television, which kinda makes their relationship open for discussion. He will learn as he gets more used to the "fame game" that there are certain things he should never talk about.
I think my issue with the deejay was that he chose to do the interview following the rules set forth by his handler, but then proceeded to bash the whole thing once it was over. He even played his conversation with his handler on the radio, which I am sure she did not give him permission to do.
3yidd we said the same exact thing pretty much. that's funny.
oh and that is interesting about the producers wanting him to talk about his brother. i figure neither him nor the producers would want him to bring his ill brother up in fear it would garner him more votes just because of that and give him an unfair advantage.
4Well, I do think that celebs have the right to privacy, unless they are an attention wh*re, i.e. Paris, the Lohans, etc. But, on the other hand, when you're famous, you have to expect that people are going to want to know EVERYTHING about you. If you want to retain any semblance of a private life, well, don't become famous.
So I think that David had the right to not answer those questions, but he's got to learn that people are going to want answers.
5this question reminds me....did anyone catch Living Lohan? I can't wait to check out that trainwreck
6isn't the hohan and show and the uber b*tch denise richards show on the same night on E!?
now that is pure viewing pleasure for one night. trainwrecks indeed.
7I saw on TMZ as he and Archie were going through the airport, a video of him signing autographs and completely ignoring the KC questions. I can understand the brother/family questions, but like you pointed out, he asked her out on national tv and then talked about it on Regis and Kelly, so what does he expect. Maybe he doesnt really like her and never wants to see her again, so that is why he is avoiding the questions
haha
8AHAAHAHAHAH! Lisa. Wishful thinking.
9Yes, they are on the same night....it is a night of chaos
10David Cook seems way too good for KC in my opinion.
I caught the last 10 minutes of the Lohan show yesterday and it made me throw up in my mouth a little.
11haha, Lisa!
I saw the same thing on TMZ and had the same hopeful thought.
I can't blame him for going after the hot blonde, but hopefully she is just a flash in the
pan. She always annoyed me...
12What's wrong with his brother? I never watched the show.
13I saw clips of it on that Showbiz Tonight show on CNN last night and Mama Lohan was watching Lindsay and Callum Blue's porn tape
And then her 14 year old came in the room and she didn't turn it off or anything
14I *think* he has brain cancer
15I just Googled it- brain cancer that has spread to his spine.
16Of course they have a right to refuse to answer questions.

17"I'm pretty sure she's baked on a professional level."
Yeah, as Jenna said he has been battling brain cancer for 10 years and took a turn for the worse recently.
The part I saw of the Lohan show involved Dina simply trolling celeb websites all day to see what press her family had received for the day. ugh.
18i want to kick white oprah in her mouth.
19I think we stop calling her white oprah and start calling her orange heidi fleiss
20Here's an article and clip that shows when David's brother was first shown on Idol.

My memory was jogged and if I remember correctly the issue with his brohter came up after David was hospitalized due to his heart problems brought on by stress. The stress of his brother's condition on top off all of the idol stuff caused David to almost quit the show.
Jenna -
Add in a Michael Jackson reference and that is perfect. Has anyone seen her nose?
What the heck?
21Yes, unless they have already used their personal life to get press.
22I picked the second option. People like Paris & Kim Karhgyfjndfj who do anything for press are gonna be more willing to answer questions rational people consider off limits anyway
23Absolutely. People are entitled to a private life. I wouldn't be surprised if not talking about KC was an AI decision, not David's. A single male American Idol is more marketable.
24I picked the first option. They are definitely entitled to have a private personal life.
25Yes everyone is entitled to privacy when it comes to personal business.....unless they put their private life out there and use it to boost their celebrity status, then it's all fair game.
26To a certain degree I say yes. Especially when someone's asked if they're pregnant and the celebrity wants to wait before announcing.
